The version of Windows : Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 7 32bit
The system language setting: Japanese
The version of GreedyGammon: newest
As much detail as possible about what should have happened and what did happen.:

No response. I can not play even 1 match.

Hi Othello,

Im very sorry about that no response. It hasnt been tested on Windows 8 but should work on Windows 7. Are you able to use any of the prev FIBS clients (3dfibs/fibzilla) ? Or those don't work either? Maybe needs more work to handle localization. I will try all I can do to make it available to everyone. Ive had some players from different countries so I dont know for sure if the language setting is the issue.

if fibzilla works I would expect greedygammon to work too. I will have to see if this problem is persistent to all japanese users with your settings. I new component that allows multi language characters was added to greedygammn not available in fibzilla. I wonder if that could be the problem. It is difficult to fix a problem that I cannot reproduce but I will continue to look for solutions and improve the program.

I new user from Japan joined today (fuyuki) and we played a 5 pt match without any problems. So maybe language setting is not the issue. I tried to ask him but he didnt replay to any chats But the game was good he won

I own the largest backgammon b.b.s. in Japan. I asked readers to test the greedygammon.
fuyuki os : windows vista Business SP2

boojum and toshi had same experience with me.
They could login the server, but no response.
boojum os :windows7/Home Premium/SP1/64bit
toshi os: windows7 Home Premium

and I tested it on windows xp sp3 32 bit.
It showed the message "Checking server settings.." permanently.
I could not login the server.

fuyuki logged in,setup a 5 pt match, I joined him, we played out the match and he won. I am assuming he has the same language settings as everyone else in Japan ie Japanese so we can rule that out as the source of the issues. Someone the other day created a user name with a peroid (.) that caused problmes but i dont see that issue with anyone currently registerd. (make sure nobody used that in password too) I would very much like to have all Japanese players join and play as many super japanese backgammon players but what can i do. As you can see on my toplist tab there is players with thousands experience points and many countries represented.

I can suggest something, ask your friend fuyuki to log in with your username password to see if he can do it. If so then somehow we have to try to find difference from your systems to his systems

I created new username minomonta for this test.
Of course, I could login but I could not play a match by minomonta.
I asked fuyuki to test that.
He could login and play a match.

yes sorry, it was not useful suggestion. Someone last week create a username with a dot in it (.) and that was a problem but other than that username/ passwords without this issue not cause this problem. I really appreciate your finding this news.html issue and posting it. Maybe users with default browser setting to something other than IE could have this problem. I would have never thought of that. Thanks again.

All the Japanese players have disappeared from GreedyGammon :o Where did they all go?
What do we need to do to get them back?
